Tank Inspect

Large above ground storage tanks filled with hazardous liquids such as oil, oil derived products, chemicals and food processing liquids are in widespread use in Europe and indeed throughout the world.

Leakage from corroded storage tanks, especially their floors, is a major environmental, economic and safety hazard. Current methods of detecting corrosion externally are inadequate. The only viable way is to empty the tank, which has its own hazards and drawbacks.

To overcome the drawbacks of current inspection methods, the consortium worked together to develop a new and novel ultrasonic guided wave (UGW) technique sensor system for finding defects and corrosion in internal tank floor plates without the need to empty and clean the tank.

KCC successfully designed, developed, tested and deployed the man-machine-interfaces (below) and provide on-going software development skills.
